As anybody who's used electronic dictionaries I can not imagine going back to using
thick books. I bought my first electronic dictionary in 1996. Though not being a
gadget guy I've lived happily until now without a PDA. Standard PDA functionality
aka electronic organizer does not appeal to me, but PDA-based dictionaries do. I
first tried it in 1999, when first color PDAs appeared in stores, but unfortunately
I was not able to find a good Russian-English dictionary for Windows CE, so I
returned that cool but useless toy to the store. I found at that time some
electronic dictionary, but being disappointed with this product I did not consider
it an option. Luckily this time after bying Palm-powered Sony NX60 the choice was
better. As I said, I was very disappointed with that products primarily because of
the database they use in their dictionaries. I think that instead of marketing buzz
about 400,000 words people really want an accurate electronic version of some
well-known conventional dictionary like Muller's or Apresyan's. That kind of
dictionaries simply translate single words into single words without any regards to
context. Their flat lists of "idioms" and "expressions" are not of much help either
as you can not navigate through them, but only read.
As I found Multlex through the search engine I was sold almost immediately after
seeing what they've built their database on. Finally somebody made a dictionary out
of a professional linguistic publication. All I am trying to say is that you can not
just pack 400,000 words (probably counting prepositions) into electronic memory and
call it a dictionary.
UI is also much nicer, especially on Palm OS 5.0. The speed is great even when
running everything from a memory stick. Having mentioned memory stick (or any other
extension memory card) 10M databse of the Gold Edition is not a problem.
Overall I am completely satisfied with the product and I'll laugh at people that
bought their $400 hardware-based dictionaries, when you can buy a top of the line
multimedia-oriented PDA with Multilex for less money.

"I have been using SlovoEd since 2000 on my Palm IIIxe (previously x). The new
version combined with MultiLex has now appeared. From my point of view, it is the
best way to obtain perfect dictionaries. For me, it is very convenient to use the
bidirectional dictionaries Russian-English and Russian-German. They are working
always fast, have a lot of references, a friendly interface and, what is very
important, the support service is always online and ready to help. "

"English-Russian Slovoed is very good and friendly program. It's so easy to use. The
great features which other similar programs don't have are:
- it supports 4 Russian encodings,
- nice interface with dictionary in both ways,
- compressed database doesn't occupy too much of the memory space.
It is a pleasure to work with this program!"

"The dictionary leaves quite nice impression by forethought of the interface,
comfortable work and amplitude of the dictionary bases in comparison to the anagogic
programs of other firms, whose programs I used before. Practically, now it is not
necessary for me to use the traditional dictionaries, as it used to happen before.
Taking into consideration the volume of the dictionary bases, I was impressed by the
speed of work of the dictionary. In my opinion, this is the best product of its
class on the Russian market."

"I'm using Visor Deluxe with PalmOS for about 6 months. I bought it as any mobile
organiser to control a flow of necessary data, which I need in my everyday life -
telephon numbers, addresses, serials, etc. But after I got Russian language support
system "PiLoc" and English-Russian-English dictionary "SlovoEd" for it I discovered
many new features, very usefull to me.
With "PiLoc" and "SlovoEd" my Visor became so smart that now I can keep a small
library of favorite Russian books just in my pocket. And with "SlovoEd" I can
translate any word just in seconds. Especially I was impressed by new feature of new
version of "SlovoEd", that allows me to find the meening of any word in English or
Russian without leaving other active application. Now it is really very difficult to
me to image my life without Visor and "SlovoEd".
